Crucial Crew
Crucial Crew has been run from Play Away yearly from 2002 to present.
Crucial Crew is a multi-agency safety event aimed at 10 to 11-year-olds and is designed to provide children with vital life skills and safety advice.
Agencies that have taken part, since it began at Play Away, have included North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Craven Council, North Yorkshire Road Safety, Northern Power Grid, Northern Rail, British Gas Network, Arriva, St. Johns Ambulance, Aireville Swimming Pool, Craven College, Young Carers Project, Victim Support Craven, Craven Domestic Violence Services, Royal Life Saving Society, Craven Organisation for Drugs and Alcohol, Schools Waste Action Club, Craven Volunteer Bureau, UNICEF, Craven Voluntary Action, and Craven Leisure.
Organisations put on workshops using scenarios to bring to life different situations. Workshops explore issues including alcohol, drugs, water safety, house fires, domestic violence, first aid, anti-social behaviour and hate incidents.
Crucial Crew is a fantastic way of getting young people involved in making a difference in their community, and is a fun and innovative way of getting valuable safety, security and respect messages across to young children, who will hopefully remember what they have learnt, and put this into practise, should the need arise.
